It is great to see local businesses and community organisations coming together to support those who need it most.

Community Midwives and Knit and Natter Groups Support Local Baby Boutiques

Dalton Council Ward knit and natter groups have been busy throughout the winter months, creating a beautiful collection of hand-knitted items to support our local baby boutiques.

From cosy cardigans and tiny hats to snug booties, gloves and soft blankets, every piece has been lovingly made to help keep new babies warm and comfortable.

This wonderful community effort highlights the generosity, skill and kindness of our local residents.

Dalton Together is incredibly proud of everyone who has contributed their time and talent. This project highlights that “Together we can make good things happen”.

Special thanks go to our local councillors Munir Ahmed, Tyler Hawkins and Musarrat Khan for their generous support and encouragement of community initiatives such as this.

Please only take what you need so that we can help as many people as possible.

The foodbank would not be able to continue to operate without the amazing donations that are received from members of the local community, church’s and businesses.

We really appreciate people taking the time to donate. Thank you for caring and sharing, we could not achieve half of what they do without your support and the communities.

Everybody deserves to be able to feed themselves and their family.

Unsung Heroes Awards

Do you know someone who lives, works or volunteers in Dalton ward who makes a difference in their community? We’re celebrating the everyday champions who go the extra mile for others – and we need your nominations. An unsung hero could be someone who volunteers for a group in the community, someone who works hard to care for others or keep people safe, an employee who goes above and beyond for others, someone who is a good neighbour, someone who’s kindness you just feel deserves recognition. There’s no criteria apart from them having a connection to the Dalton ward. If you think they’re an unsung hero we do too!

Dalton Together and Unite Respect Connect, with funding support from our three ward councillors, want to celebrate some of the amazing things happening in our ward, particularly the things that often go unseen and unmentioned and we need your help to identify the amazing people doing amazing things.

Every unsung hero is special and we want to acknowledge that. This is not a competition to find the best hero but a chance to celebrate the breadth of great things happening in the area. Unsung heroes and a guest will be invited to a special celebration event on Friday 20th March 6.00pm where they’ll be food and entertainment and gifts for all nominees. In the event that we have more nominations than we have spaces names will go in to a draw but everyone will receive recognition of their nomination.

Nominate your Unsung Hero using the form below or e-mail info@uniterespectconnect.org.uk for more information and an entry form. Unsung heroes can be any age but if you are nominating someone under 18 please get their parent or carer’s permission and use their contact details rather than the nominee’s.

Nominations must be received by Sunday 1st March.

Ideally, we’d like you to let them know they are being nominated and get permission to share their contact details but if you aren’t able to do this, we will get in touch with you instead.

Dalton Together’s Away Day at Cummins Turbo Technologies

On Thursday 16 October 2025, the Dalton Together team took part in a half-day planning away day hosted by Cummins Turbo Technologies. The session brought together partners from Kirklees Council & Ward Councillors, Local Services 2 You, Growing Works and Dalton Together, and was facilitated by Lucy Bristow and Michelle Oddy from Cummins.

Planning for the Future of Dalton Together

The purpose of the away day was to help Dalton Together reflect, refocus and plan for the future. Ahead of the session, a questionnaire was shared with partners and the community to gather feedback and help identify priorities. The response to the survey was fantastic, and it played a vital role in shaping the discussions on the day.

Using this feedback, the team worked with Cummins to:

  • Review what Dalton Together is currently delivering
  • Identify what is working well and what could be improved
  • Decide which priorities to focus on moving forward
  • Explore where Dalton Together would like to be in three years’ time
  • Consider the skills and support needed to achieve future ambitions

An Interactive and Collaborative Session

The session was very interactive and encouraged open, collective discussion. Together, participants reviewed and reordered Dalton Together’s original aims, ensuring they reflected the voices of the community.

3 key themes from survey responses filled in by local people, marketed through socials and meetings were explored, leading into a “Start, Stop, Continue” activity. This allowed the group to:

  • Identify what Dalton Together should continue doing for the community
  • Discuss what activities it may be time to stop
  • Explore new ideas and initiatives to start, based on the agreed focus areas

The day concluded with the development of a clear action plan. This included agreeing:

  • What actions need to be taken
  • Who will be responsible for each action
  • Realistic timescales for delivery
  • Who will oversee progress to completion

Our Three Priority Focus Areas

During the workshop, three key priority areas for Dalton Together were agreed:

  • Speaking up for our community
Building strong partnerships with those living, learning, working and volunteering locally
  • Working together to make a bigger impact
Better understanding and responding to community needs
  • Seizing opportunities to build a thriving community
Attracting new resources, funding and ideas

A Special Thank You

Lucy Bristow previously supported Dalton Together by helping develop our initial aims and objectives (the “message triangle”) back in 2019, making her involvement once again particularly valuable.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who completed the survey, and a special thanks to Cummins Turbo Technologies, Lucy, and Michelle for generously donating half a day of their time, hosting us once again. Your support has been invaluable in helping Dalton Together plan confidently for the future.

Whether it’s supporting individuals to get involved locally, linking neighbours together, or helping uncover hidden talents, Community Plus is all about unlocking the power of community focusing on the gifts, relationships, and resources already present in our places.

We offer short-term, tailored support for people who may feel lonely, lack confidence or facing challenges that make it hard to join in community life.

Connecting people to local groups, activities, and services helps you to build your confidence and independence.

Whether it’s helping someone make new friends through local groups, find wellbeing support, or understand local services, our goal is to always help people make positive changes.
