Supporting residents financial capability skills – LifeSkills created with Barclays

What is LifeSkills?

LifeSkills created with Barclays is a free, financial capability and employability programme that offers educators modules, tips and advice to support residents and communities improve their financial skills.

Recent research has shown that 39% of adults don’t feel confident managing their money. If you need support with your finances, why not explore LifeSkills*.

Where to start – Personal Budgeting

Planning your personal budget is a good place to start developing your skills. This course aims to help identify your income, expenditure and how to create a budget.

This session takes between 25 and 35 minutes to complete and even includes a virtual training session. What’s more, you will:

  1. Map out ‘do now’, ‘do soon’ and ‘do later’ actions in a diary template to help identify your next steps
  2. Reflect on which payments to prioritise, ranging from rent, mortgage and utility bills through to personal loans and leisure, testing your learning through quizzes
  3. Explore case studies and identify the challenges people encounter when budgeting

Unaware of BRASS?

BRASS is an exciting new financial wellbeing programme designed by us at Dalton Together.

BRASS has been designed to help maximise what money you do have, how you can earn the most you can, how to spend and borrow money in the most efficient ways, and reduce the risks and impacts that changes to financial circumstances can have on us.

As BRASS is designed to highlight financial information for residents; LifeSkills with Barclays is useful as they provide free resources to help with Budgeting, thus helping you make the most of your earnings by understanding pay, benefits and other income.

The Growing Great Places community crowdfunding programme

The Growing Great Places community crowdfunding programme is back this Spring. Have you got a great idea to help your community recover, reconnect and thrive? Growing Great Places can help you to get your idea off the ground. Successful projects could receive a pledge of up to £5,000 from Kirklees Council.

Do you have an idea that will help people’s health and wellbeing in your local place?

Want to reconnect people to grow friendships and tackle loneliness?

Setting up new activities to support young people?

If you’ve got a great idea for helping your community build back better, Growing Great Places can help you generate support from residents, businesses and Kirklees Council to make it happen.

How can I get involved?

Spacehive and Kirklees Council are running free drop-in sessions where you can get advice about crowdfunding. They can answer your questions and share advice about running a successful campaign. These events are perfect for groups anywhere in Kirklees who are aiming to start a project this summer.

When are these events?

The events are held on the 3rd, 17th and 31st March. Come along to get all the support and advice about running a successful crowdfunding campaign. You need to get your project ready in time to be crowdfunded by the 21st April deadline to be involved.
