The Recycling Hero Awards are a chance to for you to recognise friends, family members, colleagues, young people, schools, or businesses who are setting the benchmark when it comes to reducing, reusing, and recycling in our communities.

How To Nominate Someone?
Anyone wishing to submit a nomination needs to fill out a short online form, including a statement of no more than 200 words to explain why your nominee should win one of the five awards. Nominations close on 20 October, no nominations will be accepted after this date.
All shortlisted nominees will be invited to Dewsbury Town Hall on 22 November, where the winners will be announced, and awards for winners and runners-up will be presented by the Mayor of Kirklees.

The Team of amazing volunteers have been supporting this service for over a year now – it’s running smoothly in the Dalton/Rawthorpe Library – on Mondays, but we always welcome new volunteers (you don’t have to commit to every Monday).
Average bag weight for past year is 13.26kg which means just short of 45,000kg of food has been distributed which equates to 110,000 meals
We are currently oversubscribed for the service (approx. 800 residents) but if you don’t get on the list one week you’ll be prioritised for the week after
We know things crop up but we are having on average x12 ‘now shows’ per week – if your circumstances change please let bread and butter know if you are able so we can allocate your bags to someone else on the waiting list thanks as we can only support 80 households per week (due to the size of the van)

Why do you volunteer?
I have been volunteering at The Bread and Butter Thing that runs out of the Rawthorpe and Dalton library Mondays at 2pm since May 2022. I am retired so I want to meet new people, I also like working as a team with other’s and giving back.
What do you think about The Bread and Butter Thing?
I think TBBT is a really good alternative which brings the community together and helps to redistribute surplus food from going to the landfill. I also like to hear the stories of new recipes and food that people have tried.

Another Successful Christmas Magic Appeal Delivered in 2022

Dalton Together would like to reach out to our community and partners thanking everyone who were a part of our Christmas Magic Appeal for 2022. “Together we make good things happen”.
With the help of Moldgreen URC coordinating the operation, the time of the teaching staff at Moldgreen Community Primary School, the financial support from the Dalton Ward Cllrs, The Freemasons and employees of Syngenta through their Community Gift Fund (donating toys towards our appeal!), plus everybody and partners who kindly donated additional items for residents/families within our community, we have managed to deliver another successful Christmas appeal which has made a huge difference to families and individuals across the Dalton Ward.
A special thank you goes out to Rosie Buxton (who has now retired and moved out of the area) for overseeing the whole operation, without her none of this would have been possible.
How many households did we help?
Our Christmas Magic Appeal 2022 managed to help:
Over 450 residents and 128 different families across the Dalton Ward!
190 Adults (132 female, 58 male).
273 Children (124 girls, 149 boys).
What did our goodies bags contain for families/individuals?
Festive food, drink, toys and gifts.
Presents for all members of the family, including pets.
128 referrals were made towards this years appeal!
15 different organisations referred families to receive a Christmas goodie bag.
23 of our goodie bags were halal.
Volunteers involved in the Magic Appeal?
We had great support from our community, this included approximately 20 volunteers skilled in multiple areas to help bring everything together. Overall we had volunteer’s who:
Collected donations from organisations/partners and residents.
Shopped for key items for the appeal.
Helped setting up on the day.
Packing and giving out the goodie bags to families arriving on the day for collection.
Plans for 2023 are already being discussed, we will be collecting donations all year round, new (unwrapped) goods for all ages. Contact info@daltontogether.co.uk if you would like to drop anything off.

If you are wanting to donate please can you complete our online Christmas Magic – Donation Form 2022 form located at the bottom of this webpage. Please make sure that food is ambient and can last throughout December and any gifts come unwrapped and are new. Key gift appeal for teenage boys and dads/grandads including some pet gifts/food.

Dalton Together “Together We Make Good Things Happen” Celebration Event

Dalton Together welcomed Dalton Ward residents (of all ages), local community groups/volunteers, partner organisations and services to attend our “Together we make good things happen” celebration event which happened on Wednesday 9th March 2022.
A big thank you to all of the residents, local community groups/volunteers, partner organisation and services that were in attendance, making this a successful and enjoyable evening. A special thank you goes to TSL Volunteering Kirklees for helping to organise the event.
What happened at the event
We celebrated the amazing work local groups and volunteers undertook during this pandemic in our community.
Made local residents aware of community activities on offer and volunteering opportunities on their doorstep.
Refreshments and light buffet lunch provided to everyone in attendance.

Helping to care for your local natural environment …. whatever your preference; wild space or park, footpath or hilltop, river or canal bank – if there are any local residents wanting to volunteer any of their time in the Dalton Ward we would love to hear from you.
Aspire Creating Communities is an Occupational Therapy based, person-focused, dementia friendly service, centred around building relationships with group attendees. We started just over six years ago and became a charity in December 2019.
Our beneficiaries are over 55s who come to our sessions for fun, laughter and friendship, leaving with this and much more. These sessions are accessible to all, with affordability not being a barrier. Central to our approach is strong relationships with beneficiaries, their families, and our community. Our sessions in Dalton are on a Monday morning from 10.00 to 12.00 pm.
