An Orchard for Dalton

On Friday 18th March pupils from St Joseph’s School in Dalton joined Councillor Naheed Mather, Gill Logan and Growing Works staff to plant 6 new fruit trees next to the Dalton Community Garden.

The pupils had a fantastic time digging holes for the trees, planting them and watering them in and gave great instruction to Councillor Mather to help her with the task. They also made wildflower seed balls to take back to school and home and enjoyed some homemade soup!

All in all, it was a great morning with lots learnt and time in nature well spent!  The new trees will start fruiting in a couple of years, but we don’t have to wait that long to taste fresh fruit as there are already mature fruit trees in the Community Garden for the community to enjoy.
