Dalton Ward Councillors – Responding to Community Needs
8th February 2022
Your Dalton Ward Councillors would like to share with you how they have been using their ward budgets to meet the needs of the community by funding and supporting various activities and initiatives in the Dalton Ward.
The Town Estate and Springbank Residents Association applied for funding through Dalton Together’s Helping Hands fund so that they could organise a Day trip to Blackpool on the 10th August 2021.
How many residents benefitted?
By securing Helping Hands funding, the Town Estate and Springbank Residents Association managed to strengthen the community across the Dalton ward by connecting Tenants and Residents of the Town and Springbank Estates together with a fun filled, action packed day which benefitted…
20 Adults
36 Children
What impact did this activity have on the Dalton Ward community?
“This trip was a great relief for everyone after what has been a very difficult year for us all. It was wonderful to see children and adults meeting others who live on the estate and enjoying themselves together for what was for some, their first ever trip to the sea-side.
It brought our community together, and created new friendships and a real sense of togetherness that has remained strong on the estate since our first day trip to Blackpool.”

After having a year off due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Kirklees Summer Play Camp is excited to welcome back children from all across Yorkshire for a summer of fun and excitement.
Kirklees Summer Play Camp has been running for over 40 years, giving thousands of children the opportunity to make memories, meet new friends and try new activities.
Who can attend?
Children aged 9 – 12 can come to one of the 6 camps throughout July and August. Each camp is 4 days and 3 nights which is spent in tents with their friends.
What can you expect?
As in previous years the camps will include a variety of games and activities, including the final night disco and campfire, waterslide and games in the woods.
Camp leaders Jane and Duncan said ‘We were devastated that we had to cancel summer camp last year. We know that our children and families missed it so much and so did we. This year will be amazing – seeing old friends, making new ones and rediscovering all our games and activities, including a climbing wall on each camp. So, don’t miss out, book now and we will see you in the summer!’
Pricing and Arrangements
The children are collected and returned to one of 3 central pick up points in Huddersfield, Dewsbury and the Woolley Edge services on the M1. The cost of a full price place is £61.04 with reductions when siblings are booked together and, because of successful fundraising, the cost of an assisted place has been reduced to £20.50 for this year. The fees cover pick up from a central point, all food and activities.
For more information about assisted places, contact kirkleescamp@btinternet.com. All dietary requirements are catered for and there is a tuck shop available for children to buy sweets and glow sticks for the disco.
The camp is run by a team of experienced volunteers who ensure that the children are safe and able to have fun. Kirklees Summer Playcamp also offers young people the opportunity to complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award residential through its Aspiring Leaders program, visit the website for more information.
Greenfields tackling food poverty and financial insecurity
19th March 2021
Greenfields is excited to announce that the Community Food Share is now up and running.
There are two sites where emergency food can be accessed, Moldgreen United Reform Church, 24/7 access and Greenfields Family Centre, Monday to Friday 07.30 – 17.30.
The food is for people who are genuinely in need and has been provided by the Foodbank located at Greenfields, which is stocked through generous donations from members of the community and Morrisons.
If successful they will be rolling out the scheme in other locations in the Ward. Please only take what you need so that Greenfields can help as many people as possible.
The foodbank would not be able to continue to operate without the amazing donations that are received from members of the local community, church and businesses.
Greenfields really appreciate people taking the time to donate. Thank you for caring and sharing, Greenfields could not achieve half of what they do without your support and the communities.
Everybody deserves to be able to feed themselves and their family.
If you are struggling to achieve this basic right please contact them by messagingGreenfields Dalton on Facebookor Email: greenfieldsfamilycentre@outlook.com
They have 7 day food parcel (store cupboard essentials) and hygiene packs available. This is not Charity it’s your right.

Craig Taylor-Green from@fromHUDwithMUD on Facebook applied to Dalton Together to fund his idea ‘The Radish Race 2021’. Here is what he had to say about his experience of applying for funding and why he wanted set up this community project.
“In response to the most recent lockdown announcement, I wanted to do something to help the community to remain positive, hopeful and connected.
As I’m currently on a food growing journey with my community purposed back garden project, it seemed natural to centre the idea around the incredible joy that comes from growing something.
With Dalton Together’s encouragement and financial support, the idea turned into reality and Radish Race 2021 was born which basically involves growing radish using a provided grow kit and completing a radish themed activity pack.
Dalton Together is there to support all members of the ward and the processes in place seem to be person focused, minimizing barriers and providing people with a sense of hope that they are not alone.
Radish Race 2021 is almost two weeks in and the engagement so far has been amazing. Hopefully these photos tell a story.”
